Barberton City Schools Celebrates Academic Growth and Community Recognition
By Jason Ondrus,
Superintendent
Dear Barberton City School District,
I hope this message finds you well as we continue to work together for the success of every student in our district. I am writing to share some exciting news about our recent achievements, both in the classroom and within the community.
First, I am proud to announce that Barberton City Schools continues to demonstrate momentum with the state report card. These results reflect the hard work, dedication, and commitment of our students, teachers, staff, and families. Our district has demonstrated growth and achievement in key areas such as early literacy, graduation rates, and gap closing. This is a testament to the collaborative efforts of our entire school community in creating a learning environment where every student can succeed.
Additionally, I am thrilled to share that our district has been recognized for the fourth year in a row with the Akron Area Community Choice Award for the Best Public School! This prestigious designation highlights the strong partnership between our schools, district partners, and our families. It shows that together, we are building a school district that not only prioritizes academic achievement but also fosters a supportive and engaging environment for all students.

Barberton Continues Momentum
|
⭐️ The 2023-24 Ohio School Report Cards are out, and we've got some exciting updates to share. Our district continues to generate momentum, with notable improvements across the board.
We're thrilled to see our graduation rates on the rise, showing that more of our students are crossing that important finish line (with the help of initiatives like our beloved Graduation Pathways). Our Algebra 1 scores have skyrocketed, with nearly a 30% improvement since 2021 – we are so proud!
While our attendance rates have improved, absenteeism is still a pressing topic. This 30% increase just shows and solidifies that the students who show up, All Day, Every Day, are doing a great job learning and absorbing information during their lessons.
We're especially proud of Barberton Primary School - K-2’s 5-star rating in gap closing, thanks to our success in early literacy. This achievement reflects our commitment to giving every student the tools they need to succeed, now and into their futures.
We've made targeted intervention and enrichment a priority, building it into schedules in every building, meeting students right where they are. And we're seeing great strides in early literacy, particularly in science and reading.
These accomplishments are a testament to the hard work of our students, teachers, and staff. While there's always room to grow, we're celebrating these wins and looking forward to an even brighter future for Barberton students!🪄
